“Design can be art. Design can be aesthetics. Design is so simple, that’s why it is so complicated.” —Paul Rand

It’s true when they say that design is everywhere. Truly “good” design goes unnoticed. As I dip my toes into the conceptual world of art direction, I strive to pull inspiration from the very history of a product and from the world around me, molding them together to develop a cohesive visual journey worthy of inspiration and engagement.

Product Campaign: Kerr High-Waist Jogger

The Kerr High-Waist pant was one of Jaanuu’s top-selling pants after being launched in 2023, and in 2024 it was brought back in jogger form. This campaign utilized simple PDP imagery to spotlight the new style, coupled with strong iconography and dotted line elements designed to emphasize the key high-waist and jogger fit. Campaign assets included site homepage hero images, social media content (posts and stories), paid ads, and an email.

promo campaign: match day 2024

Match Day is a huge day for medical students—it’s when students are notified of where they matched for their residency programs. Prior to Match Day, students register with the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) and submit a rank-order list of residency programs they’d wish to train. Residency programs also submit rank-order lists of applicants they’d prefer to train. The NRMP processes all of the information through their matching algorithm, and everyone is notified of their matches. In the scrubs world, most brands offer sales for match day for students to “stock up” on scrub uniforms for their residency programs. This year, I was tasked with producing concepts for the Match Day promo branding.

I started with creating some basic layouts for the Match Day 2024 lockup. I played around with stacking letters and font styles to see what works well together.

After trying out several designs, I came up with the version 1 lockup (orange background). The connecting dots are meant to be a visualization of the NMRP algorithm matching students with their programs. The mockup was well received; however there were concerns over legibility in the small sizes needed for paid ads. The solution was to keep the connection animation, but use the font characters at their full thickness (blue background).
